Cookies and local storage, briefly
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Local storage is similar but is never automatically sent anywhere — the site has to read it deliberately with JavaScript. This site uses local storage for a few small preferences and, at the time of this review, sets no tracking cookies.
What is stored right now
| Name | Type | Category | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
fa-theme | Local storage | Strictly necessary | Remembers your light or dark theme choice. |
fa-best-<game> | Local storage | Strictly necessary | Keeps your personal best for one game, on this device only. |
fa-consent-v1 | Local storage | Strictly necessary | Records your cookie choices so the banner stops asking. |
We class all three as strictly necessary because each one exists purely to deliver something you asked for: the theme you picked, the score you set, and the consent decision you made. None of them identifies you and none of them is shared.
The categories we use
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to work as you expect. These are set without consent because the site cannot function properly without them, and they are limited to the three items listed above.
Analytics
Would tell us which pages and games are actually used, so we know what to improve. Not currently installed. If added, it will only run after you accept this category.
Advertising
Used by an ad network to measure, cap and — with consent — personalise advertising. Not currently installed. If added, it will only run after you accept this category.
How consent works here
The banner appears on your first visit and offers three equally available choices: accept all, reject optional, or manage each category individually. Your choice is written to local storage so you are not asked again.
Technically, optional scripts are loaded from a single place in our JavaScript that runs only after consent
is granted for the matching category. That means rejecting optional cookies does not merely hide a banner — the
scripts are never fetched or executed at all. You can read the implementation in
js/main.js.
To change your mind, use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can block or delete cookies and local storage for any site in your browser's settings, usually under Privacy, Site settings or Site data. Two things are worth knowing before you do:
- Clearing site data for this domain will erase your saved high scores. We have no server-side copy.
- Browsing in a private or incognito window means nothing is kept at all, so your theme and scores reset every time.
Blocking storage entirely does not break the games. They will still play — they simply will not remember anything between rounds.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because no tracking script is installed, there is nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off at present. If advertising or analytics is added later, honouring those signals will be described in this policy.
Changes
This policy will be updated whenever the set of cookies or storage items on the site changes, and the "last reviewed" date at the top will change with it. Material changes will also reset the consent banner so you can make a fresh choice.
